The second presidential debate of 2018, promoted by RedeTV! this Friday (17), accounted for 619,086 tweets about the candidates from Friday (17) 10 pm to Saturday (18) 1 am. The event kept the hashtag #debateredetv among the worldwide trending topics throughout the broadcast. The candidates that took part in the discussion were the same from the last debate: Alvaro Dias (Podemos), Cabo Daciolo (Patriota), Ciro Gomes (PDT), Henrique Meirelles (MDB), Jair Bolsonaro (PSL), Geraldo Alckmin (PSDB), Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) e Marina Silva (Rede).
Former president Lula, despite his absence, was mentioned during the discussions, in particular on the decision of the majority of the candidates to remove the pulpit from the scenario.

The volume of mentions to the second debate on Twitter was prompted by the official hashtags of TV stations, present in 1 in every 3 publications. Among the hashtags promoted by the presidential hopefuls, the most popular were associated with Bolsonaro, such as #bolsonaropresidente17 (President Bolsonario 17), #votobolsonaro17 (I vote for Bolsonaro 17) and #jairmessiasbolsonaro.

While the first debate was marked by memes and ironies related to Cabo Daciolo, in the second, the users were more interested in the clash of ideas and the discussions between the presidential hopefuls. The confrontation between Marina and Bolsonaro was the most discussed one, reflecting the “scolding” of the former and her defense of the secular State.
