Law Maria da Penha: 66% of the debate on Twitter is made by women
Debate about the theme intensified with the release of images of the death of attorney Tatiane Spitzner; since last Friday (03), there were 498,700 tweets about violence against women

The twelve years of Law Maria da Penha, celebrated yesterday, and the commotion caused by the death of attorney Tatiane Spitzner and by other cases reported since last week prompted a significant wave of critical engagements on Twitter against violence against women in Brazil, and most of them were mobilized on the social network by women. There were 498,700 tweets about the theme from last Friday (03) to 10 am this Wednesday (08), of which 66% were made by female accounts, peaking at 8 pm this Tuesday (07): 184 tweets per minute. Among the 30 posts about the episode with the highest volume of retweets, 22 were made by women.

Attentions on social networks intensified regarding the theme after the release, on Friday, of videos showing how the attorney was successively attacked by her husband in the building where they lived, in the city of Guarapuava, state of Pará, until she fell from the fourth floor. Since then, the outrage caused by the details of Tatiane’s death began to propel discussions associated with feminicide, society’s views about fights between husband and wife and sexism – many of them alluding the electoral scenario.
